Veterans Memorial Flagpole

Here are some shots of the gigantic Veterans Memorial Flagpole, located at the south end of the Santa Fe College campus next to the track.

    The sign says
           VETERAN’S MEMORIAL FLAGPOLE
    Would it be too irreverent (or irrelevant) of me to point out that that's the possessive of a singular, that it's a memorial to more than one veteran, and that it should be
           VETERANS’ MEMORIAL FLAGPOLE
    with the apostrophe after the S ?

    Yes, I know: I'm a hopeless pedant.

    Or they could have done it the way I did it and leave out the apostrophe.
